Para viabilizar o modo de produção agrícola em larga escala, pesticidas são pulverizados em lavouras de forma indiscriminada. O Brasil é o país que mais consome agrotóxicos: 5,2 litros/ano por habitante. Muitos desses herbicidas, fungicidas e pesticidas estão proibidos em quase todo mundo pelo risco que representam à saúde pública. Trabalhadores rurais e populações de zonas agrícolas são atingidos diretamente e têm altos índices de câncer e suicídio, mas o perigo está na mesa de todos os brasileiros.
